“Corruption” in the registration of properties arouses an investigation

Rawalpindi:

The administration of the Rawalpindi division took the generalized complaints very seriously for corruption and irregularities in the property registration offices.

In response, four officials were suspended and 17 others were transferred from various branches.

According to sources, surveys against suspended staff have already started, with official summons to those involved.

Despite these actions, the properties’ registration processes, including the transfer of ownership and the delivery of proxies, have remained blocked in the past three weeks.

The situation led to a loss of income estimated at 300 million rupees in the registration offices for rural, urban and cantonment of the Rawalpindi division, and losses continue to grow.

Suspended officials include an assistant, a senior clerk and two junior clerks in the regulation and registration branches.

In addition, 17 staff members, including assistants, main clerks and junior clerks, were transferred.

These officials belonged to various urban and rural registration offices, notably those of Gujar Khan and the city. The Rawalpindi commissioner ordered an in -depth investigation into their activities, as well as an examination of all the property records carried out in the past six months.

In the same vein, the deputy commissioner for the Abdullah Ghazi coordination was appointed registrar of the Urban Property Registration Office. A formal notice was issued and Abdullah Ghazi took responsibility.

Sources have said that the operation was part of a wider effort aimed at combating corruption and restoring transparency of the property recording system in the Rawalpindi division.
