- Supports modular AI and a functional center
The Taiwanese manufacturer Compal Electronics has unveiled a conceptual device, adapt X, a modular commercial laptop designed to extend the life of the device and reduce electronic waste.
Adapt X includes 14-inch and 16 inch screens, equipped with type-C interfaces and a functional concentrator that extends the input and output options via a modular units.
It is also delivered with a detachable secondary screen which can act as a sales instructor, positioned either flat for transparent or high multitasking for an extended workspace.
Modular design for prolonged use
Developed as a flexible and customizable modular alternative in the same vein as Framework products, adapt X combines metallic aesthetics with sustainability, which earned it an IF design award for 2025.
Users can exchange or upgrade components independently, reducing upgrading frequency and cost reduction. The ultra-thin and detachable keyboard offers a tablet type experience.
Meanwhile, the detachable additional display is useful for managing several windows simultaneously, making X adapt a useful computer for programming, and one of the best laptops for trading.
If it is fully carried out, this approach could create a recyclable and improved laptop with a minimal environmental impact, referring to a future where “eternal” devices, evolving with users, are common.
