Pakistan faces potential ghee shortages and cooking oil, with edible oil shipments trapped at Port Qasim for more than a week, arousing concerns concerning the disturbances of the offer, reported Express News .

The consolidation process of edible oil expeditions has stopped, causing fears of a shortage in the country. During last week, no sending of edible oil was authorized.

Sheikh Omar Rehan, president of Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association, said that there was no space available at the terminal to unload the expeditions. He added that 8 to 10 ships, carrying more than 70,000 metric tonnes of palm oil, await queues to unload their cargo. This situation threatens to cause a shortage of ghee and edible oil on the market.

The association has also revealed that heavy decreases and fines are imposed on shipments trapped at the port, exacerbating the financial impact.

The suspension of customs software (PSW) also affects the release process, resulting in significant losses for importers. The lack of clearance aggravates the edible oil shortage.

Rehan noted that the end of the authorization damages serious damage to the economy, the importers facing losses of a billions of rupees due to the delay in the treatment of shipments.

The delay has highlighted the current challenges in Pakistan ports, which are vital for the smooth flow of goods in the country.
