Cowboys, Mike McCarthy agree to part ways in stunning move: reports

The Dallas Cowboys and Mike McCarthy have reportedly decided to part ways after the two sides failed to agree on a contract extension.

McCarthy and the Cowboys have not been able to agree on the length of the contract and, with the former Super Bowl champion’s head coach’s contract expiring this week, the two sides will part ways, it was reported Monday the NFL Network.

McCarthy should draw interest from other teams. The Chicago Bears were rumored to have requested an interview with McCarthy, but their request was denied. Now, McCarthy could talk with the Bears or other teams.

ESPN reported that the New Orleans Saints are also expected to be interested in McCarthy.

He became the Cowboys’ head coach before the 2020 season, succeeding Jason Garrett, who had spent 10 years at the helm. Although McCarthy went 6-10 in his first season, he had some success when the team was healthy.
