“CPEC 2.0” officially set in motion in Beijing

Pakistan and China designed bilateral agreements with a value of $ 8.5 billion in various sectors on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif qualifying the development of “long march of economic growth”.

Chinese and Pakistani companies have signed understanding of $ 7 billion and joint ventures of $ 1.54 billion (totaling $ 8.5 billion) in sectors, in particular agriculture, electric vehicles, solar energy, health, Pakistan-China investment conference, Pakistan-China in Beijing.

He reassured the Chinese delegation of Pakistan’s unshakable commitment to the facilitation of investors, declaring that Chinese investors will be treated as partners and that “Pakistan is your second house, just like China is ours”.

Security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan, he said an absolute priority, adding that “the security of Chinese citizens is essential”.

“This is one of the largest commercial conferences I attended during my visit to this big country. Our relationship with China is unequaled, higher than Himalayas, deeper than the deepest, softer than honey and stronger than steel,” said the Prime Minister.

Referring to the Chinese-Pakistani Economic Corridor Agreement (CPEC) signed in 2015 during the Historical Visit of President Xi Jinping in Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif created the first phase of the CPEC to transform the energy and infrastructure of Pakistan.

“We were confronted at 20 hours of power outages per day. Today, thanks to the dynamic and visionary leadership of President XI, Pakistan has become self-sufficient. It was the turning point,” he noted.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the launch of CPEC 2.0, which will focus on business investments in businesses (B2B) in agriculture, IT and AI, minerals and industrial relocation.

“Our agricultural sector employs 60% of our population. China has excelled in this area, and we are looking for your partnership to modernize our agricultural practices and increase exports,” he urged Chinese investors.

He highlighted the role of special economic zones (ZES) in the investment attraction, offering competitive advantages such as labor and qualified joint ventures to produce high quality export products.

In a segment emotionally responsible for his speech, Prime Minister Shehbaz told his first visit to China in 1982.

“Even at the time, I said that China suffered from success, no failure. Today, China is the second economy and world military power, having withdrawn more than 700 million people from poverty. This is the model I want to borrow and reproduce in Pakistan,” he said.

He congratulated the leadership of President Xi Jinping in the promotion of multilateralism and shared prosperity, claiming that China has changed the destinations of many nations, testimony to its “visionary and dynamic leadership”.

In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his determination to transform the economic landscape of Pakistan. “We know that the path is difficult, but not impossible. With the support of China and our commitment, we will make Pakistan a strong and dynamic economy. That the brand today the start of this trip.”

Chinese and Pakistani investors, government representatives and dignitaries, including Dar-Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi and Chinese Council Chairman for the Promotion of International Trade, Federal Ministers and others were present on occasion.

Based on the important consensus reached between President XI and the Prime Minister at their meeting on Tuesday, the two leaders reaffirmed their shared determination to further strengthen the all-time cooperative partnership dressed in iron between Pakistan and China. The signing of the 2024-2029 joint action plan was considered an important step in this regard.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Chinese management for the successful accommodation of the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit in Tianjin and prolonged his congratulations to China on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the success of the Chinese people in the war of resistance and the anti-fascist war of the world.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s support to President Xi historical initiatives to strengthen multilateralism, including the global governance initiative, the global development initiative, the global security initiative as well as the global civilization initiative.

The two countries would celebrate the 75th anniversary of the creation of Pakistani-Chinese diplomatic links next year.

The two leaders also attended the ceremony for the exchange of understanding and agreements signed and announced between the two countries with regard to cooperation in the development of CPEC 2.0, science and technology, IT, media, agriculture, etc.

The talks at the level of the delegation were followed by a sumptuous lunch, organized by the Chinese Prime Minister in honor of the Prime Minister and his delegation.

Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s vision of deepening bilateral cooperation with China in industries, agriculture, trade, ICT, mining and minerals.

The Prime Minister considered the Economic corridor of Chinese Pakistan (CPEC) as the central pillar of socio-economic development in Pakistan and has expressed his satisfaction with his regular progress in phase II.

Admiring the Prime Minister’s economic reform program, Minister LI stressed that China considered Pakistan as a brother at any time and a strategic cooperative partner all times.

He expressed the firmness of China to raise bilateral relations with Pakistan to new heights of cooperation and collaboration.
