Cpne worrying voice concerning press freedom

Lahore:

The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Publishers (CPNE) has expressed profound concern concerning restrictions on press freedom and the challenges faced by the country’s printed media industry.

The concerns were raised during a meeting of the CPNE permanent committee, chaired by President Irshad Ahmed Arif, who highlighted the essential role of the printed media in the promotion of responsible journalism.

He noted that although social media platforms are often the source of government complaints, the consumer media unfairly support the consequences, faced with growing threats against its independence.

ARIF said that punitive media organizations and journalists are increasing, adding that despite government allegations of national progress, the written press is declined due to official neglect.
