The story

The founder of Terraform Labs Do Kwon, who created the Terrausd Stablecoin and her counterpart Luna (Luna) Token, pleaded guilty of conspiracy in order to commit titles, basic products or wire fraud and wire fraud

Why it matters

Terra and its related ecosystem exploded dramatically in 2022, Luna from a price of almost $ 120 to less than $ 120 to less than 10 cents in five weeks. UST broke the ankle and the event was the first domino of the various other bankruptcies of the cryptography society during 2022.

Decompose it

In 2021, Kwon repeatedly assured investors that Terra and Luna were safe investments, through tweets and appearances on programs like Coindesk TV.

On Tuesday, he apologized as part of his guilt.

“Between 2018 and 2022 in the South New York District and elsewhere, I was knowingly agreed with others to participate in a fraud plan, and I actually defrauded, the buyers of the cryptocurrencies issued by my business, Terraform Labs”, he said, continuing to say that he made “false false statements” on which UST has taken up his ankle.

As part of its advocacy agreement, the Ministry of Justice has agreed to recommend a prison sentence of no more than 12 years, and Kwon can request an international transfer of prison once it has served 50% of its sentence. One of Kwon’s lawyers noted that there were still exceptional accusations against him in South Korea, the country where Kwon tried to be extradited during his extension to Montenegro.

Kwon’s declaration spoke to this: “The buyers I defrauds were in the Republic of Korea, in the South District of New York and elsewhere,” he said.
