The Indiana Hoosiers finished 11-2 and made an appearance in the university football playoffs for the first time in the history of the program last season and seeks to rely on this success in 2025.

The Hoosiers start the season with Old Dominion, Kennesaw State and Indiana State before the game of the Big Ten conference begins against Illinois on September 20. However, the Hoosiers calendar was the subject of conversation during the Big Ten Media Days on Tuesday.

The Hoosiers head coach Curt Ciggnetti explained why the school had canceled a home series against Virginia horsemen and has a hit in the process.

“It was a planning philosophy that started before I was hired. But I disconnected during hiring, before our first season,” he said via ON3 Sports. “Listen, here are the results – we took an additional home game, and we play nine conference games.

“The two best conferences of university football – all football that is objective will tell you – is the big ten and the dry. Twelve of 16 teams play three G5 (group of 5) or an FCS match. Twelve of these teams play 36 games – 29 G5 games and seven FCS games, and one less conference game.”

CIGNETTI continued to decompose planning in order to support the schools of the Big Ten which could be worthy of an automatic qualifier for the enlarged playoffs of university football.

“You want to put the best teams in the playoffs? Give the best leagues (automatic qualifications), but win it with game games,” added Cignetti. “And we would not be opposed to the matches of the regular season of the Big Ten-Sec every year.

“We must normalize the calendar at all levels if we want to have objective criteria for those who should be in the playoffs and which should not, and we must withdraw the committee’s decision to some extent.”

The Hoosiers should take the ground with Fernando Mendoza under the center. Omar Cooper Jr., who had 21.2 yards per reception, should also return.
