Dak Prescott will be heading to the NFL Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career.

On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback was named one of three NFC quarterbacks selected for the league’s Most Valuable Players of the Year presentation. Several of Prescott’s teammates – wide receiver George Pickens and offensive lineman Tyler Smith – will join him in the San Francisco Bay Area during Super Bowl LX week for Pro Bowl festivities. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and kicker Brandon Aubrey also received nods.

The Cowboys, however, won’t be in the big game — or the playoffs at all, for that matter. Dallas lost a third straight game in Week 16 to fall to 6-8-1 on the season. The Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs.

Despite his Pro Bowl nod, Prescott stressed the importance of winning personal accolades.

“It’s cool. It’s a good thing about the season. Understanding that every year I work my butt off to try to be the best quarterback I can be for this team. At the end of the day, I feel like I’m judged on my wins,” he said. “I didn’t achieve it this season. However, the individual numbers and performances allowed for an individual distinction, but it remains 100% a team thing.”

Prescott then praised his teammates for their contributions to his success on the field.

“When you’re the quarterback of this team, to be able to put up numbers like that, you have to have receivers like George, CeeDee, Ferg, the rest of the guys. And you have to have a great offensive line. … My success, that distinction, is 100 percent with every one of those guys out there. It’s pretty cool to be a Pro Bowler, but at the end of the day, that’s not what we’re aiming for.”

Longtime Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was blamed for the team’s three-decade championship drought.

“I admit the Cowboys management played a big role (in the 30-year Super Bowl drought),” Jones said after last Sunday’s loss. “But seriously, I’m very disappointed that the way we’re structured and my role brings us here tonight. I’m extremely disappointed.”

Prescott will be 33 before the start of next season. Considering there’s more football behind him than in front of him, the veteran signal-caller has hinted that he wants to take a more vocal role in the team’s front office decision-making going forward.

“We’re not going to come back here to this place. I feel like the last few times I probably said it was playoff losses, right? So every year has its own issues. … I’m going to do the best I can by controlling what I can, and you know, as you get older and have more opinions, have more voices and get asked more questions from the front office, maybe I can do a little more,” Prescott said.

“It’s not just about getting better physically or getting better at my game. Maybe it’s about speaking up and saying, ‘This will help, or I think this can help.’ So whatever it takes, I’m going to do my best and make sure I influence and encourage everyone around me – not just the players – to do the same. »

This offseason, the Cowboys front office will weigh the signing of wide receiver George Pickens and running back Javonte Williams. Determining where Tyler Smith will play along the Cowboys offensive line next season is another key personnel decision this offseason.

The Washington Commanders host the Cowboys at 1 p.m. ET on Christmas Day.
