The New York Knicks qualified for the final of the Eastern Conference for the first time in the quarter of a century last month, and the head coach Tom Thibodeau was credited with having helped the Knicks to end the drought of the franchise eliminatory series.
The Indiana Pacers won the series in six games and went to Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA final.
Although it was widely believed that the Knicks qualifiers for the Knicks said that Thibodeau would return for a sixth season, the organization dismissed him on Tuesday.

The Knicks launched a search for their next head coach. While the name of Dan Hurley was linked to the opening of the job, the head coach of the UCONN seems to have little interest in making the jump to the NBA.
“Not another summer of that,” Hurley said in the current Hartford.

This is not the first time that the name of the coach of the NCAA champion has been linked to the rumors of the NBA. Last summer, Hurley flew to Los Angeles to speak with the Lakers of their coach post.

Hurley refused a six -year contractual offer from Lakers in favor of returning to Storrs, Connecticut, to continue a third consecutive title. Hurley led the Huskies as the NCAA division I tournament in 2023 and 2024.
After Hurley’s rejection, the Lakers pivoted and hired JJ Redick. The decision was deprived of criticism due to the lack of experience of Redick.

Uconn experienced ups and downs during the regular 2024-25 season and entered the 2025 NCAA tournament as a seeded n ° 8. The Huskies lost against Florida Gators in the second round. Florida beat Houston in the national championship match last month.
Hurley rather accepted a six -year extension with Uconn last summer. The agreement linked him to the Huskies throughout the 2029 season.
Elsewhere, another potential candidate for Knicks coaches left the table on Wednesday when ESPN reported that the Phoenix Suns had hired Jordan Ott as next head coach.
