United Nations: the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, called for closer cooperation between the United Nations and the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) to promote peace, fight against increasing religious hatred and defend the rights of oppressed persons around the world.

Speaking in his capacity as president of the United Nations Security Council, DAR said the Pakistan Declaration during a special briefing on “Cooperation between the United Nations and regional and subregional organizations in international peace and security: Islamic cooperation Organization (OIC)”.

He described the OIC as a vital bridge connecting international and regional efforts and aligning political objectives with humanitarian needs.

The OIC, he noted, stands out not only for its large number of members, but for its clear principles-including respect for sovereignty, human dignity and justice.

“The legitimacy of the OIC stems not only from its vast and diversified adhesion, but from the clarity of the principles of its mandate-to maintain justice, to protect human dignity, to respect national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all the Member States and advances solidarity among nations,” he said.

Dar warned of the growing threat of extremism and Islamophobia, saying that such hatred goes against the very spirit of the United Nations Charter. He underlined the urgent need for global cooperation to counter this trend.

“Religious hatred is not only morally indefensible-it strikes the very foundation of the Charter of the United Nations,” he said.

He also welcomed the long-standing support of the OIC to the Palestinian cause and the rights of the people of Jammu-et-Cachemire as well as the prolonged illegal occupation of India.

The Minister also appreciated the positive role of the OIC by supporting peace efforts through Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and the Sahel and beyond.

He called at the end of what he described as the illegal occupation of Kashmir India and reaffirmed Pakistan support for self -determination in both regions.

The Deputy Prime Minister hosted the consensus of the Security Council on a presidential statement, which, according to him, would help to deepen the links between the UN and the OIC and would support their common work in the conflict areas of Libya in the Sahel.
