Dar calls for ECO connectivity

Dar highlighted the important role of ECO in promoting prosperity, economic integration and connectivity.

ISLAMABAD:

Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Ishaq Dar on Friday highlighted the need for CEE member states to strengthen cooperation in the areas of sustainable transport, transit trade, customs harmonization and climate resilient infrastructure.

The DPM/FM was speaking at the 29th CEE Council of Ministers (COM) meeting, held virtually, during which he urged member countries to make joint efforts to combat terrorism, which threatens regional economic progress.

In his speech, the DPM congratulated Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev for successfully hosting the ECO-COM meeting. He also appreciated the contributions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, and the Secretary General of ECO, Ambassador Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, for their leadership in promoting the ECO agenda.

DPM Dar highlighted the important role of ECO in promoting prosperity, economic integration and connectivity. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the ECO Vision 2025 and expressed Pakistan’s intention, as the new Chair of the ECO COM, to work closely with Member States to finalize the ECO Vision 2026-2035.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s priority to strengthen multi-modal transport corridors, harmonize customs frameworks and align transport systems for seamless regional integration.
