NEW YORK:
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Ishaq Dar, called on Wednesday to inclusive dialogue and cooperative diplomacy on confrontation in the midst of periods of increasing turbulence around the world as “the cost of unresolved disputes, long-term conflicts, unilateral actions and contempt for international law are felt in all regions”.
In his speech delivered at the reception organized by the Pakistani mission in New York on the occasion of the Pakistani presidency of the United Nations Security Council, the DPM emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism, the peaceful resolution of disputes and the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
Addressing diplomats, United Nations officials and representatives of the Member States, Dar stressed that at the heart of Pakistan’s foreign policy was a firm belief in multilateralism and as a rule of international law. “The objectives and principles consecrated in the Charter of the United Nations, in particular the peaceful settlement of disputes and non-use or the threat of strength, are fundamental to the United Nations and essential for a fair international order,” he said.
“The Security Council must be considered not only as a reaction chamber, but as a prevention, problem solving and leadership forum,” he said.
Reaffirming the active diplomatic engagement of Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the country remained determined to work with partners around the world to advance the common objectives of peace, development and human rights.
