- Daredevil: Born Again season 2 takes place before Spider-Man: A Whole New Day
- One of the producers of the Disney+ series confirmed that this would be the case
- However, the show’s lead actor says he won’t appear in the Marvel movie
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will precede the events of Spider-Man: A Whole New Day – but the lead star of the former says fans shouldn’t subsequently expect him to appear in the latter.
Speaking to Black Girl Nerds (BGN) ahead of the Disney+ series’ return, producer Sana Amanat revealed Daredevil: Born AgainSpidey’s second chapter takes place before Spidey’s next big screen adventure.
Until recently, there was confusion over how the next two Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects would fit together, especially since both are set in New York. Add in comments from Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television, streaming and animation (via Entertainment Weekly), that their stories are “connected,” and fans were keen to know more about where the duo stood in relation to each other on the MCU timeline.

Thanks to Amanat, we finally have a definitive answer — and that’s not the only thought-provoking quote she provided in response to BGN’s question about Daredevil and Spider-Man’s upcoming MCU tales.
“We try to dance a little between the raindrops,” Amanat said of the proximity Born Again 2 And Spider-Man 4 are. “But it’s fair to say that the events that happen in Season 2 predate what happens in Season 2. Spiderman[:Brand New Day]. So we’re very careful about how it plays out, but there are some common characters that come into play. Spider-Man 4. And that’s all I can say.”
The devil is in the details
“Shared characters,” you say? I can’t be the only one whose attention immediately turned to the prospect of seeing Daredevil and Spider-Man team up in Brand new day. After all, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil – well, his civilian alter ego Matt Murdock – made a brief but crowd-pleasing appearance in the webslinger’s latest film, aka 2021. Spider-Man: No Way Home.
So a precedent has been set regarding the dynamic duo sharing screen time in the MCU. In the comics, the two also have a close friendship and have joined together to defeat a common enemy or two (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, I’m looking at you). So there’s no reason why Murdock and Peter Parker can’t join forces in the latter’s next big screen project.
Unfortunately, it seems that our hopes for such a collaboration have already been dashed. Promote Born again season 2 on the March 18, 2026 edition of The Jimmy Kimmel Show, Cox denied that he would appear in the Marvel Phase 6 film.
He was asked if he was secretly part of Spider-Man: A Whole New Daycasting, Cox replied, “No. Now if I was in the film, I would also say no, to be clear. But no, I’m not in the movie.” In response to Kimmel’s response “But you could be lying,” Cox added, “I could be lying, but I’m definitely not in it.”
Should we take Cox at his word? He’s not the first Marvel actor to deny he’s in a movie or TV series before appearing in it (*cough* Andrew Garfield *cough*), and Cox has been around long enough to know how to deflect rumors of this ilk without seeming suspicious.
For now, I’m willing to take his comments at face value and believe he’s not involved. Brand new daybut I guess we’ll soon find out whether he was telling the truth or not.
