Zohran Mamdani won New York City’s mayoral election on Tuesday, which didn’t please Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.
Late last month, Portnoy revealed that he had conversations with the company’s “financial guys” about potentially moving the company out of New York, and told them to “start looking at properties.”
“Honestly, I thought about it a lot… going to Hoboken or Jersey City or something like that,” Portnoy said during a livestream. “I don’t want to have an office (in Manhattan).”

Portnoy’s nightmare has come true as the 34-year-old democratic socialist is expected to take office starting in January. The day after the election, Portnoy essentially shrugged his shoulders.
“If that’s what the people of New York want, then [sic] so be it. Thank God I don’t live there anymore,” he posted on X.
In an interview with FOX Business in July, Portnoy called Mamdani a “communist” and “one of the worst, scariest candidates.”
“He hates capitalism, he wants fundamental change in what built this country, and he doesn’t really hide it,” Portnoy said.

Portnoy then accused Mamdani of being quick to “side with the terrorists” and cited his criticism of the Boston police for allegedly not reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev his Miranda rights when he was finally arrested in 2013 for the deadly Boston Marathon bombing.
“His reaction to this [the bombing] It’s “How did the police not figure out this guy Miranda is acting like when he’s sitting in a boat”, not the people he killed. This is someone in a city where the 9/11 attacks happened. He would be quicker to blame the finance people in the building than the people who flew the planes into the buildings,” Portnoy said.

Mamdani beat former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa, who remained controversial in the race.
