Deion Sanders is not kidding.

The Colorado Buffaloes football coach has instituted a fine policy for players who violate team rules as he prepares for the upcoming 2026 season. Being late for practice will result in a $500 fine, while skipping it altogether will cost $2,500.

Sanders announced the fines to the team last week. The structure was also spotted in a video posted by his son on the Well Off Media YouTube channel. The system was not tied to the rise of name, image, and likeness agreements that took over college football and were not tied to on-field performance. It was strictly for violating team rules, which is allowed, according to Colorado.

One of the most important rules concerned team equipment. Transfer players who wore T-shirts, sweatshirts or anything else from their former team were strictly prohibited.

“It’s disrespectful,” Sanders said in the video. “It would be like your wife was wearing her (ex-boyfriend’s) stuff right now. How do you feel about that? She’s sitting up there with a shirt that had her (ex-boyfriend’s) name on it. … That’s how I feel when I see you come into the cafeteria – you’re eating our food with your last shift. Obviously, if you wanted to stay there, you should have stayed.”

Other fines included $2,000 for failing to show up for a meeting or movie and $400 for being late. A player will be fined $1,500 for not showing up for practice and $1,000 for being late. A player can also be fined $2,500 for violating team rules and up to $5,000 for misconduct in public or on social media.

Sanders also prohibits profanity outside the boardroom and has stressed the importance of being respectful of women.
