- Dell Pro Max 18 Plus Workstation already supports up to 128 GB of RAM CAMM2
- A configuration of 256 GB is expected soon for heavy data work or AI
- Curiously, no AMD support despite a clear AI and design objectives focused on performance
Dell plans to offer a high -end workstable laptop with a massive memory option of 256 GB later this year.
The Dell Pro Max 18 Plus is already available for purchase now and is at the top of the Dell mobile workstation range, as we predicted last year.
It is propelled by an Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX processor, associated with an NVIDIA RTX Pro 5000 Blackwell GPU, and supports up to 4 TB of SSD storage, making it one of the best commercial laptops.
But no AMD option?
Memory configurations start with a single CSODIMM of 16 GB 6400MTS and users can go to 32 GB or 64 GB using double modules.
There is also the option for 128 GB of Double Canal 6400MTS CAMM2 memory, although you will pay a premium – an additional $ 1,895 at the total price in fact.
And if 128 GB is still not enough, Dell plans to offer a 256 GB Ram Camm2 option later in the year.
While 256 GB will be far beyond what most users need, it could appeal to engineers, researchers and developers who work regularly with demanding data sets and working charges rich in calculation.
Dell has made thermal improvements to Pro Max 18 Plus to maintain coherent performance under load. It requires up to a 44% increase in graphic performance compared to the 18 -inch previous model.
The system also has better helpfulness, with a USB-C modular port and an easy-to-access upgrade panel.
Combined with Dell management tools and safety features, it is clearly designed for corporate environments.
A notable omission is the AMD support. Dell Pro Max 14 includes Ryzen AI processors and is part of the Copilot +range, which makes it all the more unusual as the 18 plus, positioned as the most capable model, does not offer AMD options.
With the Ryzen processors largely rented for their NPU performance and their high efficiency, their absence can be a kind of rupture for users in search of AI alternatives.
We can only hope that Dell sees the error of his ways and provides AMD options to future Pro Max models.
