Authorities said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
The fire broke out at a Stanley home around 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, prompting emergency responses from Gaston and Lincoln counties, according to Queen City News.
Dennis and Mary Lou Hamlin were both outside the home as emergency personnel rushed to the scene.
“We are grateful for the response from multiple agencies and ask the public to pray for the affected family and our fire, EME and police first responders,” the Lucia-Bend Fire Department said in a statement to the news outlet.
Dennis Hamlin was listed as a director of the real estate company that owned the house. Firefighters said the house was completely destroyed, as it took about two hours for the fire to be extinguished.
