Dense fog engulfs Karachi early morning, visibility near zero

Dense fog reduced visibility to almost zero in parts of Karachi early on Sunday, disrupting road traffic in areas including Super Highway, Scheme 33, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Clifton.

The conditions caused difficulties for motorists early in the morning, particularly on major thoroughfares and high-speed corridors.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 17.5°C. The fog began to dissipate after sunrise, gradually improving visibility over Karachi.

At least six international flights were diverted due to poor visibility, some of which were redirected to Muscat, while a private airline’s flight from Jeddah was diverted to Islamabad, airline sources said.

The Met Office said weather conditions were expected to remain dry over the next 24 hours, with cold temperatures likely overnight and early morning. The maximum temperature forecast today will be between 27°C and 29°C, compared to 30.8°C recorded a day earlier.

Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 5 to 15 kilometers per hour, while humidity levels could range between 40% and 95%, the department said.
