Longtime sportsman Mike Tirico said Tuesday he was heartbroken over the loss of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, in Arizona while speaking to reporters ahead of Super Bowl LX.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home around 9:30 p.m. Saturday and was reported missing by her family around noon Sunday, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Although officials did not immediately elaborate on the circumstances of her disappearance, they said they believed Nancy Guthrie had been kidnapped or abducted, and noted that blood was found outside the home. Savannah Guthrie was scheduled to cover the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics for NBC.
“First and foremost, my heart is breaking and our hearts are breaking. It’s been 36 hours since we found out,” Tirico said, via TalkSport. “I can’t believe the situation. I had the chance to work on several Olympics with Savannah and get to know the TODAY show crew and fill in for Craig (Melvin) for a few days last year. All these people, just top professionals but with the highest self-esteem. What you see on the set of the TODAY show, these people are real. These people are special people. And we are heartbroken and devastated and we pray for Savannah and her entire family during this difficult time.
