Dismantled extortion ring: police

Karachi:

Police dismantled a criminal network involved in a recent increase in extortion cases across the metropolis. A suspect was killed during a meeting, while several others were apprehended.

Police intensify efforts to capture other key suspects, including a suspect for which a red opinion was issued.

According to the SSP Siu Muhammad Shoaib Memon, the crimes related to extortion degenerated in New Karachi from March this year. Criminals have targeted local businesses and residents, demanding money through threatening shifts and WhatsApp calls. Those who have resisted or delayed payments faced violent reprisals, including armed attacks against their stores, residences and workplaces.

During the last 10 days of Ramazan, a citizen, Abdul Jabbar, has been fatally killed in a Dastarkhwan carite.

On July 16, a rickshaw driver was killed and six others injured in the city of Surjani during another shooting linked to extortion.

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has launched a targeted operation to dismantle the extortion network. The surveys have revealed that Wasiullah Lakho, operating from Iran, orchestrated gang’s activities through Abdul Samad Kathiawari.
