- A disclosed rendering of the DJI Mini 5 Pro seems to reveal the design of the drone
- A separate image of the box may also have revealed its specifications
- The leaks refer to a 1 inch sensor and a self -tackle powered by the Lidar
The DJI Mini 5 Pro seems unlikely to have reached its launch date of August 7 previously in progress, but fans of tiny drones have at least received a little comfort in the form of two large leaks – and they refer to a small flying camera which could be worth waiting a little longer.
First, a rendering of the rumor successor of one of the best drones in the world was shared on the Discord channel for the drone hacks, giving us what could be our first look at the drone.
If the image is correct, the mini 5 pro will be very similar to its mini 4 pro predecessor, apart from a larger camera module and the inclusion of two front -facing Lidar sensors for an improved obstacle obvious.
This feature fueled by Lidar previously appeared on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro and DJI Air 3s, but it would be the first time that we have seen it on a mini -series drone – and this could be particularly useful if you fly in low light.

Even more revealing is the potential list of specifications, shared by @jasperellens and dronexl. According to some disclosed packaging, the DJI Mini 5 PRO will have a 1 inch image sensor – up to the 1 / 1.3 inch chip on the mini 4 pro – and be able to shoot 4K / 120FPS images, another slight boost of the 4K / 100fps mode of its predecessor.
Elsewhere, there is the promise of a “high quality Med-Tele mode”, which will probably be similar to the one who recently arrived on DJI Pocket 3, thanks to an update of the firmware. It is indeed a “loss” harvesting mode that can be practical if you need a little more scope.
The leak also promises a 36 -minute flight time, which would be a slight boost on the 34 -minute claimed by the mini 4 pro (or 45 minutes, if you pay for the Plus smart flight battery, which is not available in the EU).
The big question
While these mini 5 pro specifications seem to be very promising – and could make me consider upgrading my mini 3 pro drone – there is a slightly disturbing omission of the box and the specifications sheet.
Usually, there is a “less than 249g” beacon accompanying the description “ultra-light and foldable” on a mini-standard box. This is not this time, at least not on the packaging disclosed.
Does this mean that the mini 5 pro could be the first in the series to exceed this crucial weight? In many regions, including the United States and the United Kingdom, a weight of less than 250g is an argument of sale because the flight regulations are more relaxed. For example, in the A1 category open in the United Kingdom, you can fly over foreigners (but not crowds) without the need for additional permission.
There is a chance that the new mini 5 pro technology (largest camera, Lidar sensors, perhaps new engines) pushed it back on weight limit, but I would be surprised if it was.
The entire point of sale of the mini series has been that they offer advanced camera technology in a package which is barely larger than a camera lens, and also slips under this crucial weight barrier. I love my DJI mini 3 pro for all these reasons, so a new model that does not all check the same boxes would not have the same call.
Unfortunately, it seems that the mini 5 pro has been postponed to its previously rumor launch date, so we will have to wait a little longer to see it – and to know if it will really be sold in the United States.
