Islamabad:
The Minister of Defense, Khawaja Asif, urged Monday not to blame the “divine will” for the destruction linked to the floods, affirming that the real cause was an uncontrolled construction on the river beds and the natural sailors.
Speaking in the National Assembly, AIF said that the rains were a blessing from God, but their advantages turn into devastation when housing companies, commercial structures and even hotels were built along the rivers and storm drains.
The Minister stressed that Pakistan could not afford to wait for decades for mega-dams, which take 10 to 15 years. Instead, he urged the construction of small dams at the village level as part of a complete national strategy.
