- The Windows 10 scheme for extended updates is now open
- You can register using your Microsoft account and get free updates (if you synchronize your PC settings on OneDrive)
- The registration assistant to access the program still seems to be deployed, but you should see it very soon
Windows 10 users can now register for prolonged updates, which means that the safety fixes that are delivered beyond the end of support deadline to ensure the safety of the PC.
As you are undoubtedly the conscious, it takes long before the end of the end of the end of the life of Windows 10, when Microsoft officially ceases to provide security updates (or updates of features elsewhere). This occurs on October 14, 2025, and after this date, a PC without updates will be potentially open to exploits.
The ESU program (ESU) of extended safety allows Windows 10 users to register for another year of updates, until October 2026, and registration for this program has now opened consumers.
In a blog post (mainly concerning the most recent update of Windows 11, and the pile of new AI features that are there), Microsoft explains that: “From today, individuals will start to see an registration assistant through notifications and parameters, which allows you to select the best option for you and register for your ESU directly from your PCELL 10.”
How to register for the extended security update program
At this point, you could scratch your head and ask: So where is this registration assistant?
As Microsoft observes above, you can see a notification appearing in Windows 10 offering a link to register for the ESU diagram – and you can obviously use it if you see it. Otherwise, you can go to Windows Update (in the settings), where you have to find a link to the same end, although you can wait for your time.
In the Windows Update panel, you can see a link to “register now” for the safety updates extended under where you check the updates (above), that is with the right links. I do not yet see that on my Windows 10 PC, but this YouTube video (from Thiojoe) shows where the links must be visible.
The reason why I cannot see this is probably because the deployment has not yet completely started. As Microsoft says in the blog post, consumers “will start to see” the registration assistant, which means that the deployment has not yet reached everyone. You may not see it either, and it’s just a case to be patient – no one should have long wait at this stage.
Anyway, when you click to register, if you are not connected to a Microsoft account, you must do it. Indeed, you will have to register for the diet, and if you want to get additional updates for free, you will need to be signed to check that you have synchronized your PC settings using the Windows backup application.
This is the alternative way to register for ESU, instead of paying costs of $ 30 (or using Microsoft Rewards Points, which is a third option). Note that you do not have to use Windows backup to actually a full backup of your system to get free updates, you just have to synchronize your PC settings on OneDrive using this application, which seems a relatively low price to pay (compared to $ 30, certainly).
Those who have already synchronized the parameters in this way will be able to click directly and obtain the ESU offer for free noise.
According to Youtuber Thiojoe, it is possible to connect to a Microsoft account to get the ESU on your PC, then go to a local account later – and you will always receive the additional updates throughout 2026 on this computer. Just in case you were curious about this tactic, it works – at least we are told anyway.
