Peshawar:

Doctors’ associations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have united for a new joint platform called Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Doctors Council, warning the provincial government to immediately stop the harassment of doctors.

Friday, a meeting of the council took place in Peshawar, chaired by Dr. Abdul Majid. Dr. Sibghatullah, Dr. Rizwan Rajput and Dr Fazal Manan of the Province Doctors Association.

Dr. Asif Yousafzai of the Young Doctors Association, Professor Dr Musa Kaleem of the teacher’s executive, Dr. Haroon of the PMA, Dr. Nisar of the Islamic Doctors Forum, Dr. Zulfiqar of the Peoples’ Doctors and Dr. Daniyal de la Pima attended the meeting.

Participants rejected what they called the “cruel” professional tax imposed on doctors by the provincial government. They demanded that the tax be restored at previous rates in accordance with other provinces.

To resolve the issue, a committee of three members has been trained, which will hold interviews with the government. The council also required an immediate judgment of the actions targeting doctors.

Participants demanded the withdrawal of letters issued by the excise and taxation service to MTIS financial directors and the general KP accountant concerning the employee deductions of doctors.

“The wages of all doctors, including home agents, trainee and doctors, should be increased in proportion to inflation in the next provincial budget. Heavy fines imposed on doctors by the health care committee on behalf of the registration should be abolished immediately,” asked the meeting.

In addition to this, the harassment of doctors on behalf of the drug sales license should be arrested and the court’s decision on the issue should be implemented.

Since 2017, no employment advertising has been published by the Public Service Commission (PSC), which they have called a serious injustice.

The Council demanded that the jobs be announced immediately through the Commission of the Public Service. In MTI hospitals, instead of the Policy Council, the recruitment and promotion of doctors should be ensured in accordance with the procedures and standards made by PMDC as the rest of the country, he added.

The obstacles to the appointment of civil servants to whom the Council of Governors of the MTI has given the NOC should be withdrawn and civil servants should also have the possibility of serving in the MTI.

The violations of merit and nepotism in appointments in MTI hospitals should be stopped immediately and the supremacy of merit in the appointments should be assured, the council said.

According to the announcement published by the chief secretary concerning the independent surveillance unit (IMU), the promotion of doctors was carried out on the basis of the performance of the Independent Surveillance Unit (IMU). The community of doctors has serious reservations about this and it should be abolished and the promotion must be made on the basis of ACR.
