- A Peaky Blinders The Sequel series is in preparation for Netflix and BBC
- Two seasons made up of six episodes each were green-shredded, with Cillian Murphy Executive Producing
- The show followed a new generation of Shelbys in 1953 during the reconstruction of Birmingham after the Second World War
Not only Netflix gives us the Peaky Blinders movie The immortal manBut the streamer announced (in partnership with BBC) a series of suite, which has already been Greenlit for two seasons.
As the BBC synopsis explains: “Great Britain, 1953. After being strongly bombed during the Second World War, Birmingham built a better future in concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky BlindersThe race for the possession of the massive reconstruction project of Birmingham becomes a brutal competition of mythical dimensions.
“It is a city of unprecedented opportunities and danger: with the Shelby family directly in its heart soaked in blood.”
To paraphrase young people, I am so seated that my mother asks me to get up from the sofa. But we should not be too surprised; Knight has already confirmed that the “world would continue” after the film, and another show worthy of the franchise is the most logical.
If anything, it is the change of role of Cillian Murphy who is the most surprising. Having been the main role of the original series and to resume his role in the film, he will not really be on the screen in the following – and that could make or undo his success.
Opinion: Can the suite of Peaky Blinders succeed without Cillian Murphy? I’m not so sure
Originally, Murphy played Tommy Shelby, patriarch of the Shelby family and the chief of the Gang Peaky Blinders (hence the title of the title). Shelby served during the First World War, faced the New York mafia and became a Labor deputy in the aftermath of the series. But in the seasons in a row, Murphy does not resume his role – he should be the executive producer.
Would we really expect to see him almost 10 years after the end of the Second World War? Frankly, I think it would be a miracle if he was still alive. We must not know when The immortal man is set, but I guess the new film would be much closer to the main series.
Logically, it is completely logical for Murphy not to play, but it is so synonymous with the show that I do not know if one works without the other. He is one of the main characters for whom we have passed, and it is not as if we had a large part of the past to hang on (RIP, Helen McCRORY).
However, there are two positive points that we should hold: Murphy as a producer means that the two new seasons should have a good sense of continuity, because its linked involvement, the two naturally show together – even if it is no longer on the screen.
We also have the potential success of the film. If The immortal man is a success, it is possible that his new characters are picked up in the seasons in a row (depending on when it is defined). We know that Barry Keoghan will be one of them, and it is not exactly a bad look to involve it in any project (except maybe any Sabrina Carpenter).
I squeeze completely on the straws here, see everything we know about the Peaky Blinders suite is limited. But for Murphy -Heads compatriots, there is hope – and good, if all is bad, at least we have its appearance in 28 years later: the bone temple.
