US President Donald Trump appointed XRP, Solana (Sol) and Cardano (ADA) as three assets to contain in a strategic crypto reserve on Sunday, providing the first details on what this reserve might look like.
Not included were Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH), the two largest digital assets by market capitalization. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, his social media platform.
“An American crypto reserve will raise this critical industry after years of corrupt attacks by the Biden administration, which is why my decree on digital assets ordered the presidential working group to move forward on a cryptographic strategic reserve which includes XRP, Sol and ADA,” said post. “I will make sure that the United States is the cryptographic world capital. We are making America again!”
The decree, signed in January, orders its working group to assess a crypto reserve, but has not explicitly called the United States to create one. However, Trump has discussed the idea since the 2024 presidential campaign.
Senator Cynthia Lummis previously introduced a bill to create a strategic bitcoin reserve for the United States, and pleaded since Bitcoin Nashville, where Trump also spoke. A certain number of American legislatures of states have already presented bills to create their own crypto reserves, although these efforts have failed in many.
