- Apple would soon launch two new tablets
- These will be new models in the iPad and iPad Air ranges
- They might have new chipsets but few other upgrades
If you’re in the market for a new standard iPad or iPad Air, now’s about the worst time to buy one, as it looks like new models could be launching very soon.
So says noted Apple watcher Mark Gurman, who in his latest newsletter for Bloomberg (via MacRumors) says new models in these ranges are “coming soon.”
It doesn’t mention an exact date, but the iPad (2025) and iPad Air (2025) both launched in early March last year, so another early March launch would make sense and would definitely be considered “coming soon.”
These don’t appear to be massive improvements over their predecessors, but one major thing is apparently changing, with Gurman claiming that the next iPad will have an A18 chipset (an upgrade from the current A16 Bionic), while the next iPad Air will have an M4 chipset (instead of the current M3).
An AI upgrade
So the iPad Air will unsurprisingly be the most powerful of these tablets if that claim is correct, but the standard iPad would arguably benefit from the most significant upgrade, since the move to an A18 should allow it to handle Apple Intelligence, something the current standard iPad can’t. For AI fans, this is a big deal and should go a long way toward sustaining the roster.
Beyond the chipsets, however, not much seems to change, with both of these tablets looking a lot like their predecessors and having generally similar specs.
If so, it might not be worth upgrading if you already own a 2025 iPad or iPad Air; but for new buyers or anyone currently using an older model, it’s absolutely worth the wait compared to what’s available now.
