- ID software Doom: dark ages is faced with crushing problems on portable games
- The problem seems to come from obsolete drivers on AMD Ryzen Z1 propels pocket computers like the Asus Rog Ally
- It seems that neither AMD nor ID software is recoil, but rather laptop providers like Asus and Lenovo
The long waiting of ID software Doom: dark ages is finally finished, because the premium publishing, offering two days of early access, is now available – but if you use a portable game PC powered by AMD, it is probably preferable clearly for the moment.
As our friends have reported at PC Gamer, Doom: dark ages is unplayable on portable games, especially those that use Ryzen Z1 chips from AMD, due to constant collisions. This is obvious in the video provided by PC Gamer, which sees the game game in seconds due to a failure of the AMD driver.
I can corroborate the same crushing problems; Although the start of the game campaign was good (on my Asus Rog Ally Z1 Extreme), it did not take more than 10 seconds for the game to stop. This would result in a black screen, the game always audible in the background, or worse, fireing – however, the blame is apparently not on ID software and its new title.
Since the game requires the latest AMD Adrenaline Graphic Pilot 25.5.1 – which is the first invitation indicated during startup – accidents are expected on these pocket computers. And that points directly to the question; The Asus Rog Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go which use the extreme Ryzen Z1 processors of AMD are most often on obsolete graphic pilots.
This lack of support for the Asus and Lenovo pilot has been a continuous problem since the launch of these pocket computers, which leads to games that cannot be played at all, or suffering from frequent crashes, because they only require new pilots work well.
I saw it happening with games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 And The last of us part 2 – The first tends to have pilot accidents in “zombie” mode of the game, and the results cannot be reproduced on a desktop game PC which has access to the last pilots. It leaves portable players without solution, because breeding (manual installation of more recent pilots) does not always work – and can easily cause “code 43” errors, which I have encountered on several occasions.
This is one of the main reasons why my Asus Rog Ally collects dust
It is quite serious that Microsoft Windows 11 and other applications such as Armory Crate have many bugs and slow responsiveness; Launching the lack of support for the laptop suppliers driver literally prevents users from playing certain games.
You could also say that Doom: dark ages is technically not yet out (because it is early access), but these problems do not seem to come from the PC port. This is a problem of assistance, and a quick overview of the latest graphic driver available on the Rog Ally assistance page of Asus will show you that the last driver at the time of the editorial staff took place in February earlier this year.
I am lucky to have a Powerhouse game PC to dive into the games with ease, but for those who bought a laptop at Ryzen Z1 to be their main game device, it is simply not good enough. Of course, nothing is perfect, but the devices that cost a lot should at the very least be taken care of in the long term.
