- Dropbox integrates Dash into its own cloud storage platform
- It already connects to Slack, Canva and more
- Availability is still limited, as users will need to register on a waiting list
Dropbox is adding more Dash AI features to the core app and interface to make it easier for workers to find what they need.
Launching in 2023 as a universal search bar that connects to third-party apps like Slack, Canva, and Google Workspace, Dash will now support smarter search, summaries, and contextual responses within files stored in Dropbox.
The progress doesn’t stop there either, as Dropbox has promised to soon add multimodal search which will support searching across videos, audio and images, via a partnership with Mobius Labs.
Dropbox Dash AI is coming to… Dropbox
It was really a natural progression for Dropbox to bring its AI tool to its own platform, although no one expected it to take this long – and you’ll have to get on a waitlist for early access for now.
The company said 95% of AI tools fail because they lack context in applications. So perhaps third-party support was a priority so that when Dash launched in Dropbox it would be even more powerful.
“It’s like having an AI teammate who actually understands you and your team,” Dropbox said.
There are two ways to access Dash: the first is an easy-to-set-up app and aims to combat scattered and siled content, and the second is the new Dropbox integration.
At the same time, Dropbox also announced the new Dash MCP server, which means MCP-enabled apps like Claude, Cursor, and Goose can access search features from their own interfaces.
“Whether you’re writing an email or reviewing code, the answers and information you need are always at your fingertips with Dash,” the company wrote.
Currently, the Dash app is only available to teams in the United States and in English only, but no Dropbox plan is required. Wider availability of Dash in Dropbox will follow “in the coming months.”
