Duchess Sophie is said to be keeping a low profile after learning a shocking truth, linked to her husband Prince Edward’s past relationship, amid the Andrew and Sarah Ferguson scandals.
The Duchess of Edinburgh is deliberately avoiding the spotlight while carrying out her royal duties on behalf of King Charles, a royal insider has claimed.
The source said: “There’s no doubt Sophie has been searching for answers to many questions since learning the shocking truth that her husband’s ex may be writing a tell-all memoir.”
The 61-year-old has not responded to reports about the Duke of Edinburgh’s past. However, she “fears the upcoming explosive book could reveal previously untold stories about the royal,” according to a close source.
Edward’s latest solo appearance has royal fans worried about his relationship with the Duchess, as she regularly attends the state dinner.
Sophie, known as one of the king’s most favorite and loyal family members, also raised eyebrows with her decision to skip the Nigerian state banquet.
However, Sophie apparently missed the lavish engagement to attend an important duty in New York amid swirling questions about the royal.
She flew from London to New York on Wednesday, March 11, for a low-key trip at a time when senior royals were displaying unity to send the world a message of unity and resilience amid controversies and Andrew’s arrest.
However, this time Sophie’s absence had an air of mystery, especially as the Edinburghs face their own potential scandal.
Ruthie Henshall claimed the book would document her romance with the prince. Edward’s love letters have reportedly inspired a new memoir that promises to reveal “the bittersweet joy of first love”.
The prince dated West End star Ruthie Henshall on and off for several years before meeting Sophie Rhys-Jones, who became his wife.
This emerges after Henshall’s claims that his book, The Showgirl and the Princewill document their romance from its secret beginnings to visits to Buckingham Palace and tea at Windsor with Queen Elizabeth II.
The prospect is likely to create angst among courtiers and the wider royal family as it recovers from the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
It is unclear whether the palace has received a preview of the book, which is due to be published in July.
“I found old journals that I had started writing in the 1980s, and then I found all my letters from Prince Edward, and I was struck by the value of that period of my life,” the 58-year-old said.
According to a new report on the couple, Edward and Sophie made up to £130,000 a year by subletting converted stables on a £30 million estate where the two would only pay peppercorn rent.
The stables next to the 120-room main house rented from the Crown Estate in Bagshot Park, Surrey, would have been rented out with the profits going to Sophi rather than the taxpayer.
