Duchess Sophie prepares for major move as she helps charity pack

Sophie wows in her first outing of 2026

Duchess Sophie rolled up her sleeves and got busy packing during a visit to The Lighthouse charity in Woking this weekend.

As patron of the Lighthouse, the Duchess of Edinburgh helped volunteers pack up the charity’s current space before its move. She was also given a tour of the organization’s new temporary home as renovations begin. Speaking to staff and volunteers over tea, Sophie heard about their plans for the coming year and how the charity intends to continue to support vulnerable people as Woking’s High Street undergoes redevelopment.

The Lighthouse later shared photos of the visit on social media, writing: The Lighthouse then shared photos of the visit on social media, writing: “HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh visited Woking Lighthouse, taking a short walk to our new location around the corner.

The charity currently operates across four sites in Woking, Barnsbury, Aldershot and Guildford.

This visit is accompanied by a powerful appeal from Sophie on the international scene. In an article written for The Telegraph, the Duchess urged the world not to ignore Sudan as the conflict reaches a devastating stage.

“As the world begins a new year, we face a difficult and terrible milestone: 1,000 days of conflict in Sudan,” she wrote, describing it as “the world’s most serious humanitarian crisis.”

Sophie also reflected on her visit to the Sudanese border last year, remembering a constant stream of exhausted families crossing into Chad, often on foot or in donkey carts.
