- The Hushjet Purify Compact is the first Dyson office air air purifier
- He uses a new star -shaped nozzle inspired by jet engines
- The electrostatic hepa filter lasts up to 5 years
Dyson is known to make some of the best air purifiers on the market, but they are not particularly compact. In fact, some of them are downright massive (looking at you, Dyson Big + Quiet). So when I heard that the brand launched its very first office machine, I was intrigued.
For the compact purifier HushJet, Dyson had to rethink its air purifier design. The models in the current range use curls / amps (as seen on the Hot + Cool formaldehyde HP09 purifier) or cones (as on the above -mentioned Big + Quiet), which are effective but take up a lot of space. On the other hand, the new addition has a nozzle in the shape of a space saving star which works in a completely different way.
The design is inspired by a reaction engine – or a hairdrying huch concentrator, if you are looking for a more common analogy. The engine is larger than the star nozzle, so the air is compressed when it grows. Thus, although he uses the same principle of training (that is to say, dragging the air from the rest of the room, making a more powerful throw) like other Dyson purifiers, he does so in a more compact format.
“The new star nozzle is exciting because it is always training without having this gap in the middle,” said Dyson Sophie Harold engineer when I visited the Dyson campus to take a look at the new launches of the brand. “By having the flexion edges, this always encourages the air of the surrounding region to join the fast jet. It also means that you can have a compact shape when you want something like an office purifier, without having an amp that could hinder your monitor.”
All this seems very impressive, but in reality, when the Hushjet was revealed, I was a little disappointed. Although it is generally smaller than Dyson’s other air purifiers, this is not what I would call compact, and it is certainly too large to sit naturally on a desk. If you put it on the ground, it is really the imprint that is relevant, and at 9.1 inches / 23 cm in diameter, it is not extremely different from the other Dyson purifiers. As long as you do not expect something ultra-compact, however, there are more points more to this new machine.
Control chaos
The new star -shaped nozzle has advantages in terms of acoustics – which means that despite being inspired by planes, it is actually extremely silent. I listened to it on its lowest setting in a Dyson Labs anechoic room (that is to say, designed to stop all the echoes-it was so calm that I could hear my own heart rate), and I could barely hear it.
“We often look at something called turbulence of flow, and it has to do with the way disorder or chaotic [air]The flow is “explained Sophie.” Imagine that people are waiting to get on a train and try to design a door shape, which means that they can all come out calmly and peacefully, rather than banging and provoking chaos. So what the star does is, it reduces this chaos. It minimizes the amount of turbulence coming out of the jet, which means, in turn, that the flow itself is quieter, and this is what allowed us to have this really silent speed adjustment. “”
The big upgrade of the Hushjet finale is that it uses an electrostatic hepa filter, which is more economical in energy than an ordinary hepa filter lasts much longer. In fact, Dyson says that this filter can last up to five years before having to be replaced – considerably reducing the continuous costs of the management of this purifier. The system is fully sealed, so everything that is sucking remains inside.
For those of you who are sold on the new design, I have a little bad news: you have a little while to wait. The Dyson Hushjet compact air purifier should only be sold until the beginning of 2026 (this is the UK’s date-I am waiting for confirmation from the moment when it should be launched in the United States and Australia). Price information is also TBC.
