Islamabad: The Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) disqualified member of the National Assembly Jamshed Dasti on Tuesday for having held false diplomas.
Development comes while the electoral body has approved two petitions, in particular a reference filed by the President of the National Assembly, against Dasti asking for his disqualification.
In May, the Commission had decided to ensure that the educational certificates of the National Meeting of Members (MNA) Jamshed Dasti were verified by the Karachi Education Board.
Dasti, who was elected from NA-175, Muzaffargarh, in the last general elections, was faced with cases under articles 62, 63, articles 4, 9, 137 of the 2017 law on elections. Petitions were deposited against him by Ameer Akbar, Zulfiqar Dogar and Sardar Faizul Hassan.
An ECP bench of three members led by the member of the ECP (Sindh) Nisar Durrani had heard the akbar ameer akbar petition concerning the assets and the liabilities against the MNA Dasti.
The member of KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA (KP) of the ECP asked if the MNA had goods whose electoral commission had not been informed, to which the applicant’s lawyer took the floor that Dasti had written the qualification FA (intermediate diploma) on his candidacy documents when he had not completed his qualification, The news reported.
He continued by saying that the University of Bahawalpur had declared BA and FA certificates of Dasti. “He said he completed his registration with the Bahawalpur board of directors, but it is also false.”
The petitioner’s lawyer also declared that Dasti had just submitted his registration certificate of the Karachi board of directors in response, to which the KP member said that the ECP had the power to disqualify it.
