Islamabad:

The Pakistan Electoral Commission Supervisory Authority – The Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) – will resume a matter linked to the Imran Khan PTI tomorrow (Tuesday).

In this regard, the ECP issued opinions to the PTI, its nominal president, lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, and the party commissioner of the party elections, Raoof Hasan.

The ECP also informed the dissatisfied founding member of PTI Akbar S Babar and other respondents. The authority has held eight hearings on the case, which has been pending since March 2024.

In December 2023, the Commission declared the intra-parties of null and not eager for various irregularities while hearing a complaint filed by Akbar S Babar.

The Supreme Court of January 17, 2024 confirmed the ECP order.

Following the order, the PTI lost its electoral symbol of the Cricket bat and its candidates had to challenge on February 8, 2024 general and independent elections.

Shortly after the elections, the PTI in March 2024 admitted intra-spare polls, declaring that Gohar Ali Khan and Omar Ayub Khan had been elected without opposition as president and secretary general of the party “during the elections organized in accordance with the Directives of the Supreme Court”.

However, ECP has again raised objections to the way the polls have been held.

He said the PTI had not kept the intra-party elections under article 208 (1) of the election law in the past five years, making the party without the organizational structure.

The PTI did not also submit the documents required to enlist under article 202 (5), because the party had to submit the documents of the intra-party elections. In addition, the ECP asked the PTI, if the general meeting of the party held on January 31, 2024, was in accordance with article 208 (3).

The PTI appointed the federal election commissioner for the intra-party elections under the resolution of the general body meeting when a party was to train the electoral college under article 208 (3).

In accordance with the constitution of the PTI, the National Council on the recommendations of the CEC appoints the Federal Electoral Chief Commissioner.

The ECP questioned the PTI on the status of the general organization and the commissioner in the federal elections while the general body deposited the chief organizer who informed the commissioner in the federal elections.

The ECP asked whether the general organization could appoint the chief organizer and the federal election commissioner. He asked for the position of the PTI on the five applications linked to the intra-party elections, asking the party why the ECP should not take measures against the party under article 208 (5).
