Ed Sheeran wants to tour more, but close to home

Ed Sheeran shares his plans to reside in his hometown

Ed Sheeran has spent years performing in front of millions of people around the world, but now he’s hoping the future of his concerts will be a little different and a lot closer to home.

Even after earning more than £1.16 billion in ticket sales during his last two massive world tours, he says constant traveling is not something he wants to continue as his family grows.

The singer shared that his priority now is to stay present for his wife Cherry and their daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, who will both be in school soon.

He recently made a list of what really matters to him.

“The other day I wrote a list of things that are important to me: one is my family, one is writing songs, one is performing,” he explained.

He added that keeping those three at the center of his life means “you can cut through the noise around that, however that noise may present itself.”

This thinking led him to a major idea: to create a place right next to his home in Suffolk where he could undertake a long-term residency.

This would allow him to continue performing live without spending months on the sidelines.

“I looked into the idea of building a place in my hometown and having a residency there,” he said.

“It saves travel and being away from my family. I built a studio nearby that I can use. I think that’s the model you can adopt.”

It’s easy to see why he’s willing to slow down the pace of world touring.

His recent Mathematics Tour included 188 shows across five continents, entertaining 8.8 million fans between April 2022 and September this year.

This run alone grossed £655.8 million, after his Divide tour from 2017 to 2019 grossed £581.3 million.

However, Sheeran isn’t saying goodbye to the road just yet.

Fans around the world can expect at least one more major tour tied to his latest album, Play.

On the Rewards Discussion podcast, he admitted: “I have one more big tour in me before I settle down for the school years. That’s the model I think I want to adopt. I feel like my life is pretty cluttered. I commit to a lot of things and end up doing a lot of them.”

For now, Sheeran is clearly focused on finding balance, enough music for fans and enough time at home for the moments that matter most.
