Elana Meyers Taylor being an Olympic gold medalist is no longer a dream. It’s a reality.
One of the best American Winter Olympic athletes in Team USA history finally won a gold medal on Monday. This happened during the women’s monobob competition at the Milan Cortina 2026 Games, when she just managed to hold on to first place in the event.

Meyers Taylor clocked 59.51 to jump ahead of teammate Kailie Humphries for first place. We still had to wait for the German Laura Nolte. They held their breath as Nolte lost only a few hundredths of a second in his race and finished in second place.
Meyers Taylor had a total time of 3:57.93. Nolte finished in 3:57.97. Humphries earned a bronze medal with a time of 3:58.05.

This is the first gold medal for Meyers Taylor. She tied Bonnie Blair as the most decorated Winter Olympic athlete in Team USA history. The two women have six medals in total.
Meyers Taylor had been so close to winning gold on several occasions. She won a silver medal in single-bob in 2022 in Beijing and silver medals in two-man bobsleigh in 2018 and 2014. She can now call herself an Olympic gold medalist.
Humphries won his second Olympic medal. She won gold in 2022 in Beijing.

The U.S. team hasn’t been on the podium in too many winter events, but two more medals added to their total is something they will definitely achieve before the middle of the final week.
