- The political committee approves the names approved by Imran Khan.
- Murad Saeed, Faisal made a blow among candidates for general seats.
- Rubina Naz appointed for the female seat; Swati for the technocrat slot machine.
The elections in the Senate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will take place without competition after Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI) has officially approved its list of candidates, confirming the names finalized by the founder of the Imran Khan party.
The PTI political committee met on Friday and approved the same candidates previously offered by the Party Parliamentary Council.
This decision opens the way to a fluid election without opposition in the province, following a broader understanding of the provincial government and the opposition.
According to the official declaration, PTI aligned Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Khan Afridi and Pir Noorul Haq Qadri for the general seats.
Rubina Naz will dispute the seat of women, while Zam Khan Swati was nominated for the technocratic niche. Mishaal Yousafzai will be the candidate for the siege left vacant by Sania Nishtar.
The Committee also confirmed that the dissident members of the PTI who had initially filed appointment documents for the elections in the Senate agreed to withdraw.
Earlier in the day, the dissatisfied candidates held two separate meetings with the chief minister of KP, Ali Amin Gandapur, but would have refused to withdraw until a final decision comes from the political committee.
Last week, the government and the opposition of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa concluded an agreement on the holding of the elections not disputed in the Senate on the basis of a 5/6 siege sharing formula.
Under the agreement, PTI will obtain six seats while the opposition will take five.
Both parties are now aligned and internal disputes of PTI resolved, the province is planned for a rare election without opposition to the Senate.
