Islamabad:
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority approved an increase in RS0.19 per unit in the electricity rate under the monthly mechanism for adjusting fuel costs.
The hike will apply to all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric, but will exclude consumers of life, prepaid users and electric vehicle charging stations.
According to a notification issued by the NEPRA, the hike is the mechanism for adjusting the cost of August fuel (FCA) and will be reflected in electricity bills for October.
The NEPRA held a public hearing at its headquarters, chaired by the president of the Authority, where representatives of the Central Power Purchase Agency, members of the business world, energy officials, journalists and public members were present.
The CPPA-G had requested an increase of 19 paisas per unit. The Nepra said that she had carefully heard the opinions of all stakeholders at the hearing. The authority will publish a detailed decision after a more in -depth examination of the data submitted.
Cost of electricity production in August
In August, a total of 102.94 billion electricity units were provided to the distribution companies. The overall cost of electricity production amounted to RS7.50 per unit, slightly higher than the previous rate of RS7.31 per unit. Electricity, using local coal, costs RS12.01 per unit, while the use of imported coal increased the cost to RS14.07 per unit.
The production of electricity through furnace oil was significantly higher in RS33 per unit, while the cost of gas production was RS13.43 per unit. Similarly, the electricity generated using LNG was located at Rs21.73 per unit. Electricity imported from Iran has proven to be the most expensive in RS41 per unit, while the generation based on bagasse was relatively cheaper to Rs9.87 per unit.
