The billionaire Tech Elon Musk, the boss of X (formerly Twitter), Tesla and SpaceX, announced on Sunday the launch of a brand new messaging application called Xhat. Neither the BTC market nor the technological community is impressed.
One of the main characteristics of the new offer is that it is built on a programming language called Rust with a bitcoin style encryption. Although it seems exciting, the cryptographic community is not particularly excited, which makes doubts about what it means exactly.
“Bitcoin mainly uses signatures, not encryption. This is to say that we have decided to manage our rocket on water, because NASA uses hydrogen and oxygen,” said Ian Mirs, assistant computer professor at the University of Maryland, on X.
The encryption refers to the process of blurring data so that only the parts authorized with the right keys can rush and read them. However, the transactions carried out on the Bitcoin blockchain are not encrypted but are signed. In fact, all the data shared between Bitcoin nodes are not encrypted, allowing total foreigners to interact with the network.
“Needless to say” Bitcoin style “and” Rust “are not descriptions of a encryption scheme, and they are not safety indicators for a messaging application either. Also, unless the encrypted DMs are only in application, there is a good chance that they are not only in rust,” said Mirs.
Bitcoin, the main cryptocurrency by market value, exchanged almost $ 105,000, having dropped by more than 3% last week, according to Coindesk data.
The other key features of the new offer include end -to -end encryption, disappearance messages and the possibility of sending any type of file, including audio and video files, without telephone number on all platforms.
