Emergency of floods imposed in 40 river areas

Given the situation of high floods in River Sutlej, the district administration launched an operation to move residents and livestock from vulnerable areas to safer places.

The urgency was declared in 40 river localities. Deputy Commissioner Lubna Nazir called on people living near the river to immediately move to safer places.

She said that flood rescue camps have been set up where all essential facilities are provided for affected families.

The DC also urged residents to cooperate with the administration and the police to ensure their own security.

According to official figures, so far, 4,000 people and around 4,500 animals have been moved to safe areas in the Lodhran district.

In DC instructions, district officers also visit the localities affected to raise awareness of flooding and precautionary measures.

Addressing residents of neighboring villages, the additional deputy commissioner (returned) Syed Waseem Hassan said that sandbags were prepared as a protective measure to control water flow in an emergency.

He also called on citizens of the areas struck by the floods to move to security sites designated when the necessary installations are available.
