The Minister of Defense, Khawaja Asif, has awarded recent damages to encroachment on river beds and natural sailors, urging the government to prioritize the construction of small dams instead of decades of planning to initiate mega projects.
Speaking on Monday on the floor of the National Assembly on Monday, the Minister of Defense said that the rain was a blessing, not a calamity, and urged the nation to assume responsibility for the consequences, caused by encroachment as well as poor urban planning.
“Rain is a blessing. The destruction is caused because we have built housing companies and commercial structures on land that belong to rivers and rainwater drains, ”said Asif.
He pointed out that many residential and commercial developments have been illegally built in areas subject to floods, including in cities like Sialkot, where encroachment has blocked river routes, aggravating the impact of floods.
The Minister of Defense has also criticized the country’s long -standing dependence on the construction of mega dams, which often takes decades to finish, which suggests that small dams should have priority in the village to manage water and effectively reduce the risk of flood.
“Large dams like Bhasha, Diamer and Mohmand take 10 to 15 years to build. By waiting for them, we risk losing everything. We have to start building small dams-each village should have his,” he said.
