EOBI recording mines workers

Islamabad:

The Senate was informed on Friday that the registration of mine workers, the Institution of Age Age Advantages (EOBI), was managed through provincial configurations, while a committee had been formed of domestic workers across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development during the questions, the Minister of State for the Aqeel Malik law said that currently more than 11.44 million workers had been registered with the EOBI, adding that all had received the registration cards.

“Although the EOBI website does not update real -time registration, measures are taken to ensure automatic integration of online data,” said Malik. “The number of workers has since increased to around 11.6 million,” he added.

In response to a question from the Ssenator Daneh Kumar, the Minister of State said that details concerning insurance rights, affiliated companies, access to the hospital and posthumous benefits would be provided in writing. Malik said that an Eobi pensions increased by 15% was approved.

Another question of Shahadat Awan, he said that the recording of mine was managed by provincial configurations. He also declared that a special committee made up of the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif actively worked for the registration of national workers across the country.

Senator Masroor Ahsan raised the request concerning the properties made up of EOB. Malik replied that he currently had 49 buildings – 24 in Punjab, 14 in Sindh, five in Islamabad, four in Khyber -Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and two in Balutchistan. He added that 40 buildings were rented spaces for regional offices and on the ground.

However, Ahsan stressed that the data did not include plots belonging to the EOBI. He suggested that the question be referred to a competent senatorial committee. Malik said the details of EOBI plots would also be submitted shortly.

Answering the question of Zameer Ghumro on the devolution of EOBI to the provinces, the Minister of State declared to the House that the case would be placed before the Council of common interests (CCI) and resolved in accordance with constitutional provisions.

Answering several other questions, the Minister of State said that 37 appointments had been made to the Overseas Pakistani Ministry by an “office memorandum” published by the Finance Division on September 6, 2024.

Senator Abdul Shakoor Khan expressed his concerns concerning the limited representation of Balutchistan, Senator Dash Kumar criticized the absence of quotas reserved for women and people with disabilities. Malik said recruitment had been made on the open and local merit which included minority quotas.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that disadvantaged regions such as Balutchistan, Interior Sindh, South Punjab and KP parties were being priority.
