Escalator installed at Lahore station

Pakistan Railways has launched a progressive project to install mechanical stairs in key stations, including Lahore, Karachi and Multan, for a total cost of RS120 million. According to the Minister of Railways, the mechanical staircases of the Lahore railway station will be operational from June 25.

In the first phase, work is underway at the Lahore railway station, where the mechanical stairs are installed on platforms 2 and 4 at the cost of 60 million rupees. The installation is almost finished.

Created in 1859 in British times, Lahore Railways station served hundreds of thousands of passengers a day. In the absence of escalators, elderly passengers, women and children have often fought with stairs while carrying luggage. Given the difficulties faced with the commuters of the railways, the administration has decided to install mechanical stairs which will soon be operational.

Up to 50 million passengers travel to trains per year. The railway administration said that after Lahore, the mechanical staircases will be installed in terms of phase in Karachi, Multan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other stations.

He estimated the total cost at 120 million rupees. The installation work of stopover at the Karachi Railways station will also be launched this month. In addition, the administration also builds comfortable waiting areas for passengers.
