Ethereum developers set on May 7 as a target date of the long -awaited Pectra upgrade on Thursday, starting the countdown of the biggest changes in the blockchain since March 2024.
Pectra contains a series of improvements to make Ethereum more user -friendly and more efficient. Such improvement is to add “smart contract” capacities to wallets, which can make them easier to use and recover.
The decision to plan Pectra was made during a call between the main developers of Ethereum – a little more than a week after the online upgrade on the Hoodi Testnet without any hiccups. The Pectra test on Hoodi was the third and last dry round of the upgrade. Two previous tests had bugs, which led the developers to delay the upgrade on the Mainnet d’Ethereum.
Pectra consists of 11 major code changes, or “Ethereum improvement proposals” (EIPS), which will be shipped at the same time. Together, the features aim to improve the implementation experience, to introduce portfolio features and to update the global network.
The UIP-7251, which will increase the quantity of ETH, is one of the main changes in Pectra which will benefit the Ethereum validators, which will increase the amount of ETH from 32 to 2048. The change aims to mitigate experience for those who mark several validators, which can now configure this under one node instead of multiple.
