Ethereum proposal that could make the network faster

Welcome to the protocol, the weekly conclusion of Coindesk of the most important stories of the technological development of cryptocurrencies. I am Margaux Nijkerk, reporter Tech & Coindesk Protocols.

In this issue:

  • Ethereum Developer offers 6 -second block hours to increase the speed

New Ethereum proposal that could make the network faster: Ethereum could soon run twice as fast. It is according to a new proposal launched by the basic developer Barnabé Monnot to reduce the niche time of the network from 12 seconds to six seconds, effectively doubling the number of blocks produced per minute. The idea, which is part of the EIP-7782, could be included in the next Glamsterdam upgrade planned for 2026. Publicly discussed proposals or ideas are common in the blockchain world and cannot necessarily go to tests. If it was implemented, the proposal would reduce the time spent on three stages of key consensus: blocking proposals (3 seconds)Attracts (1.5 seconds)and aggregation (1.5 seconds). This would shave six seconds from the current 12 -second cycle. Faster blocks mean faster confirmations, cooler data on the chain for wallets and applications, and a more transparent experience for users. – Shaurya Malwa Learn more.

The new prover by Zksync ‘Airbender’: Matter Labs, the developer firm behind the layer of layer 2 ZKSYNC, has unveiled its new cryptographic prover “Airbender”. A prover is a key component for layers-2, because it generates zero knowledge of knowledge which is then displayed on the blockchain of the base layer (in this case Ethereum) – A crucial process to link the two channels and ensure its safety. The Zksync team says that Airbender is the fastest of its kind, offering evidence of Ethereum block in 35 seconds with a single GPU, exceeding its references from competitors. Having quick speeds can save on transaction costs. “We are in fraction of a hundred territory which is essential for key use cases, including micropaies, high frequency trade and decentralized social,” said Alex Gluchowski, co-founder of Matter Labs, in an interview with Coindesk. “The faster evidence unlock a faster purpose, cheaper applications and, above all, evidence that can be generated anywhere, not just in massive GPU farms.” – Margaux Nijkerk Learn more.

Norway plans prohibit new crypto extraction data centers: The government of the Labor Party of Norway has revealed plans to impose a temporary ban on all new Crypto extraction data centers which use energy work proof systems, by Reuters. The proposed rule could start in the fall of 2025, if it is approved, and aims to preserve electricity capacity for more productive industries. “The exploitation of cryptocurrencies is very high power intensity and generates little jobs and income for the local community,” said the Minister of Digitization Karianne Tung, adding this decision reflects “the government’s clear intention to limit the exploitation of cryptocurrency in Norway as much as possible”. Norway, with its vast renewable hydroelectric resources, has long attracted bitcoin minors looking for low -cost energy. Companies like Kryptovault have established operations outside of OSLO – performing data centers up to 40 MW, recycling heat with dry wood or reheating the buildings nearby. – Shaurya Malwa Learn more.

The XRP LEDGER version brings new features and upgrades: Ripplex, which supports the developers of the Ledger XRP, published version 2.5.0 of “Rippled”, its network’s implementation of the network. The new version is delivered with a chain of amendments that widen the features and governance tools of the network. The new amendments are now open to the vote according to the amendment process of the XRP Ledger, which allows changes in protocol after two weeks of support of more than 80% of confidence validators. The seven amendments include “Tokenescrow”, which allows a sequestration for Iou and versatile tokens, “lot”, allowing the atomic execution of group transactions; And “permissions”, which allows operators DEX to control participation for regulatory compliance. Ripplex asked the validators to go to the latest version as soon as possible to ensure the continuity of the service. The update ends while XRPL continues to become a more flexible and aware of the authorization led by DEFI use cases and business developers concerned with compliance. – Shaurya Malwa Learn more.

Regulation and Policy

  • The best American senators shared an overview of the rules for the interior cryptography markets, releasing a set of principles while they are preparing to chop their intentions during an afternoon hearing. The cryptography industry is enthusiastic about the recent progress of the legislation on stablescoin, but the legislation aimed at implementing the structure of the entirely regulated cryptographic activity is what the sector expects the most emergency. The president and three other republicans of the senatoric banking committee offered this framework, representing half of the team which should possibly erase a bill, which must also go through the Senate Committee for Agriculture. – Jesse Hamilton Learn more.

Unlike Arizona and New Hampshire, which has adopted similar legislation, Texas does not only allow reserve but actively finance.
