- ExpressVPN added a new “Fastest Location” feature
- The vendor also launched its first truly native macOS app
- Both updates are rolling out to users on iOS, Android and macOS
ExpressVPN has just rolled out two major updates aimed at making its service faster and more intuitive for users on the go and at their desks.
The provider introduced a “Fastest Location” feature for instant, optimized connections and launched its first native Mac VPN app, promising a true desktop experience.
Both updates are designed to streamline the user experience, ensuring customers can connect securely with just one click while experiencing the best possible performance.
In an increasingly crowded field, these quality of life improvements are essential for any service wanting to be considered the best VPN on the market, helping to remove friction and make digital privacy more accessible.
The “Fastest Location” tool is now available on ExpressVPN’s iOS, Android, and macOS apps. The new native Mac app is also available for download for all users today.
A need for speed with “Fastest Location”
As ExpressVPN explains in the announcement, the new “Fastest Location” feature is a significant improvement for users who value speed and simplicity.
It replaces the previous “Smart Location” and “Recent” sections on the app’s home screen, instead offering a single button to connect to the optimal VPN server based on real-time network conditions. This automated process is designed to deliver faster connection times and lower latency.
The update also brings more transparency to the server selection process. The app will now display the connection strength of the three or five fastest servers, which will automatically update whenever a new, more optimal location is detected. This allows users who still want to choose their server manually to make a more informed decision.
“We built Fastest Location to make secure connections effortless,” said Shay Peretz, chief operating officer at ExpressVPN, in a statement. “It manages performance behind the scenes so users can focus on browsing safely, streaming smoothly, and protecting without wasting time.”
A true desktop experience for Mac
Alongside the new login feature, ExpressVPN has launched a brand new native app for macOS.
While the provider has long supported Apple’s desktops, the previous app was based on the VPN version for iPad, brought to Mac using Apple’s cross-compatibility features. The new app is built from the ground up using Apple’s Mac Catalyst framework.
This move to a native app means users can expect a smoother, more responsive experience, fully integrated into the macOS environment. The company promises faster boot times, smoother visuals, and improved multitasking performance. This brings the Mac client closer to the vendor’s other “first-class” applications.
“We wanted the Mac version to be as polished as our other platforms,” Peretz said. “With this new native app, everything from startup to window resizing feels smoother, faster, and more in tune with macOS.” This investment in a platform-specific experience demonstrates a commitment to its Apple user base, refining the desktop experience to make it more powerful and intuitive.
