Family disputes have reached a record in 2025

Rawalpindi:

The Rawalpindi district experienced a record increase in divorce and domestic disputes in 2025, with 4,980 new family affairs deposited in the 44 courts of the Rawalpindi family from January 1 to June 30.

Currently, 26,980 family affairs are under trial in the district. On the new cases, 1,170 involved women looking for divorce (Khula).

In 121 cases, children drawn from mothers were returned. The courts also ruled in favor of 310 women in search of dowry and douaire (HAQ MEHR), and 1,069 women received child support while business was underway.

In 27 cases, the separate wives were ordered to return to their conjugal houses, while 320 couples received a week of reconciliation through a Jirga (Jirga Tribal).

Due to the case charge, each family court now hears between 90 and 110 cases per day.

A new survey suggests that divorce rates are also climbing among the Pakistani couples married abroad. Experts say that this is due to the rise in wedding trends abroad and social disconnection.

Retired judge Shaukat Ali Sajid said social media had disrupted the traditional conflict resolution. Previously, the elders were mediating disputes, but now women often go directly to court for minor issues, degenerating tensions.

Family law expert Kaneez Fatima Advocate added that parents who give smartphones for young girls without advice led to moral decrease.

Many love marriages fail when girls discover that their partners have distorted their education or financial situation.

Lawyer Sibtain Bukhari underlined the first marriages in accordance with Islamic guidelines and warned that some women depositing a divorce already have a new potential husband involved in their case, even covering legal costs. Law professionals have called for a renewed accent on family weddings and greater caution with transversal unions.
