Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the establishment and Western powers were actively working against religious seminaries since the inception of Pakistan.

He also claimed that preparations were being made for a military operation in Kurram, Express News reported.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony at Jamia Islamia Babuzi in Mardan, he said religious institutions were under pressure since the creation of Pakistan.

The JUI-F chief was the chief guest at the event, which was also attended by party leaders including Ata-ul-Haq Darwish, District Emir Maulana Amanat Shah Haqani, Dr Syed Ahmad Binori, chief of Jamia Binoria Karachi, and the Mufti. Hamad Yousafzai.

Addressing the ceremony, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that while he was not against new technologies, they should always be used for the benefit of humanity. He added that Western culture continues to target religious parties.

He further pointed out that since the creation of Pakistan, both the establishment and the Western forces have been working against religious seminaries.

He also brought up General Musharraf, urging him to recognize that Pakistan had become a servant of the United States while the country’s forefathers fought for independence.

The JUI-F leader also raised the issue of registration of seminaries, saying they are not against modern education but division in the government has caused problems.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman stressed that his party would continue to defend religious seminaries and assured that it was not opposed to modern knowledge.

He also mentioned that as a political party, they support negotiations, provided they are conducted with sincerity.

The JUI-F leader concluded by saying that efforts were being made to pave the way for a military operation in Kurram. He also criticized the provincial government, saying there was no governance in the province, with corruption and commission mafias operating freely.
