FBI Crypto veteran Chris Wong joins Trm Labs to strengthen the fight against illegal finance

Christopher Wong, a former special FBI supervision agent and a leading figure in the agency’s cryptocurrency, joined the Blockchain intelligence company, TRM Labs.

“Chris is not only one of the most talented and respected investigators in the world, he is also an inspiring colleague who returns everyone around him,” said Ari Redbord, a global TRM Labs policy, told Coindesk. “It was an essential element of the elite teams throughout his career, and now brings this same excellence to our mission in TRM.”

During its ten years with the FBI, Wong worked on some of cases of the highest crime to date. He co -directed the investigation into the 2016 Bitfinex hack, which led to the greatest crypto crisis in American history – $ 3.6 billion.

He also played a central role in his violation of the $ 600 million Infinity Ronin Bridge, who was linked to the Lazare group in North Korea. The attack caused the first American sanctions on crypto mixing services and helped redefine the way US agencies react to cyber-menua involving the crypto.

One of the last major cases of Wong with the FBI consisted in following $ 7.7 million in crypto linked to the money laundering regimes in North Korea. His efforts revealed how the agents simulated their identities to acquire jobs in the global technology industry, then swollen the profits in Pyongyang.

Wong now joins Trm Labs as a global establishment, in order to help disrupt criminal cryptographic activity.

“I can’t wait to learn from Chris because he helps our customers and partners to prevent illicit actors from exploiting transformative technologies,” said Redbord.
